Covenant’s Prayer & Memorial Garden is open to visitors each day from dawn to dusk.
No pets, please.

The Prayer and Memorial Garden was dedicated on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

At the 2023 Annual Congregational Meeting, the congregation adopted Pastor Wallace’s vision for creating a Prayer and Memorial Garden. His vision was twofold:

1) to memorialize and honor deceased and living loved ones; and

2) to provide a peaceful place to connect with God’s creation and be inspired to pray, reflect, and meditate.

The pastor appointed a committee to design the garden. The committee recommended, and the Executive Board approved, the hiring of Lemcke Landscape Inc., as the contractor.

The garden is located on the southeast corner of the church facing the traffic at the intersection of 56th Street and Cooper Road. In that way, the garden is intended to be an outdoor sanctuary for those who come to meditate and pray in the midst of the busyness of the world. As you enter the garden from the (east or west side of the church), the focal point of the garden is the towering cross and water fountain illuminated by spotlights at night and positioned in front of the church’s colorful stained-glass windows. The cross is a sign both of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection and of the faith of Christians. Rev. Shields, Founding Pastor, said that “Covenant Church sprouted from sharing in the cross of Jesus.” Hence, Christ is compared to a Fountain; He is the spring and rise of all spiritual joy and   consolation, the Head of the waters of life: “For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light,” Psalms 36:9 (NRSV)

The use of the garden is not limited to Care Partners and is available to the community. Visiting hours for the garden are dawn to dusk.  The garden is designed with a sidewalk path along the church building – that way it is accessible to those who have mobility issues. Dogs are not permitted.
