Lent at Covenant Community Church

DURING THIS SEASON OF LENT,
worship will be built around a sampling of the Psalms, “Psalms for a Lenten Journey.” The Psalms were the hymnbook of ancient Israel; Jesus himself quoted more from them than any other Old Testament book. Psalms are reflective of the diversity of experiences in the lives of God’s people in the Old Testament and today. The value of the Psalms is that they enable us to channel our emotions (negative and positive) before God, to express our praise and pain, and to receive His word of comfort, hope and challenge.

Lent corresponds to Jesus’ time in the wilderness. These psalms help us in times of self-examination, difficulty, and dryness. They lead us to see our need of repentance, grace, forgiveness and renewal through Christ. They also teach us to long again for Christ’s redemption and resurrection. This Lent, Covenant Community Church will have the opportunity to look at six different types of psalms. The goal is to grow in how we relate to God emotionally and truthfully and to allow the Holy Spirit to form within us. Lent invites us to make our hearts ready for remembering Jesus’ passion and celebrating Jesus’ resurrection. Join us on the LENTEN JOURNEY!
